Former LSU Tigers star and now Chicago Sky stalwart Angel Reese once reacted to a resurfaced photo of herself alongside the head coach of a rival program. In November 2024, a photo of Reese and UConn Huskies coach Geno Auriemma went viral. It was presumably taken when Reese was still the No. 2-ranked prospect coming out of the high school class of 2020 from St. Frances Academy, as per ESPN.
Oddly enough, Reese was wearing a Huskies sweatshirt in the said photo. It has been reported that this was the time when Auriemma was trying to recruit Reese for the Huskies. She ended up joining coach Brenda Frese’s Maryland Terrapins for her first season of collegiate hoops in the 2020-21 season. On Nov. 11 of last year, Reese responded to the viral snap on her X/Twitter account.
“Let’s put this picture back WHEREVER y’all found it,” Reese captioned on X with several emojis.
let’s put this picture back WHEREVER yall found it 😭😭🤣🤦🏽♀️ https://t.co/Ej3HQJPuKH

Reese played out her first two years of college basketball with the Terrapins, where she became one of the league’s best up-and-coming forwards. After the 2021-22 season, she decided to transfer to coach Kim Mulkey’s LSU Tigers for her last two years of collegiate hoops, dismissing any chance of playing for the Huskies.
In coach Auriemma’s case, he went with Hopkins, Minnesota, native Paige Bueckers from the class of 2020, who was ranked as the No. 1 prospect among all five-star recruits to edge out Reese for the top ranking, per ESPN. Bueckers became one of the best products of Auriemma’s program in her five-year tenure from the 2020-21 campaign to the 2024-25 season.
Bueckers and Auriemma are coming off the recently concluded campaign with a national championship win when they defeated the 2024 defending national champions, South Carolina Gamecocks, in the final by 23 points, 82-59. They ended their final season together with an overall record of 37-3 (18-0, Big East).
Reese and Bueckers have since taken over the WNBA as rising young stars. Both were named as 2025 All-Stars. Reese was drafted with the seventh overall pick in the first round of the 2024 draft, while Bueckers was selected with the first overall selection in the first round of this year’s draft.
Angel Reese Became a national champion with the LSU Tigers
As previously mentioned, Angel Reese did not commit to coach Geno Auriemma’s UConn Huskies for college basketball and instead went with the Maryland Terrapins. Her stay there was not long, as Reese eventually transferred to the LSU Tigers for her junior and senior years.
In the former, which was the 2022-23 season, Reese won her lone national title with a decisive 102-85 win over the Iowa Hawkeyes, and she was named the Most Outstanding Player (MOP).
