“I Promise You, We Aren’t Going to Play”: Angel Reese Sends Out Stern Message Hinting Towards WNBA Lockout

Angel Reese has been one of the faces of the WNBA ever since her debut in 2024. Reese won the national championship with LSU in 2023. In her two seasons with the Tigers, Reese averaged 20.9 points, 2.3 assists and 14.4 rebounds, as her career peaked under coach Kim Mulkey.

Angel Reese was selected seventh overall in the 2024 WNBA draft by the Chicago Sky. Ever since her arrival in the league, Reese has never refrained from voicing her opinion. Whether it be about the state of Chicago Sky, giving a harsh reality check to her teammates, something political or replying back to her critics on different aspects.

Another such incident happened when Reese talked about CBA negotiations and hinted toward a possible lockout.

“I promise you, we aren’t going to play unless we get NBA money.” Reese said.

The WNBA management has delayed the CBA negotiations that were supposed to be closed by the end of October. However, the negotiations have been postponed without a timeline. After Napheesa Collier’s criticism of WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert, the whole league backed Collier.

Even before the controversy began, WNBA players asked for their right with gestures such as doing their warms in custom T-shirts. The text on the T-shirts said, “Pay us what you owe us.”

Fans React to Angel Reese’s Condition for Continuing to Play in the WNBA

As like most cases on social media, fans were divided on Angel Reese’s statement.

“She about to secure more negotiations than layups made on the court,” one fan mocked Reese.

“Dozens of people are incredibly worried right now,” one fan said.

“I hope they realize literally nothing changes if that league does not play ever again. NBA keeps it afloat,” another fan claimed.

“No one is ever going to spend that much money on a WNBA player. It’s not about the athlete’s gender; it’s about the size of the audience they can attract,” one fan explained.

“The league doesn’t profit because it’s not interesting,” another fan commented.
