“I Don’t Take Disrespect Lightly”: When Angel Reese Fired Back at Caitlin Clark After Controversial ‘You Can’t See Me’ Moment

Former LSU Tigers forward and current Chicago Sky stalwart Angel Reese once spoke about her controversial gesture towards her rival, Caitlin Clark. During the 2023 national championship game, Reese and the rest of coach Kim Mulkey’s LSU Tigers took on former Iowa Hawkeyes sensation Clark and the rest of coach Lisa Bluder’s team at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

In the final minute of the hotly contested fixture, just as the Tigers were pulling away from the Hawkeyes, Reese performed a ‘You can’t see me’ action towards Clark, as she was looking on the free throw line. The Baltimore, Maryland, native waved her hand in front of her face while looking at Clark. During her post-game interview, Reese revealed the reasoning behind her gesture, which stemmed from their rising rivalry.

“Oh, I was waiting… I tell you, I was waiting, I was waiting! Man, Caitlin Clark is a hell of a player, an incredible player, for sure. But, I don’t take disrespect lightly, and she disrespected Alexis (Morris) and my girls, South Carolina; they’re still my SEC girls too. Y’all not going to disrespect them either so I had, I wanted to pick her pocket. But, I had a moment at the end of the game, and that was just, I was in my bag. I was in my moment, yeah,” Reese shared.

Reese and the rest of the 2022-23 Tigers went on to win that year’s national title over Clark and the Hawkeyes, which was the first time that the Louisiana-based program won the NCAA championship, with their 17-point victory, 102-85. Reese was awarded the postseason’s Most Outstanding Player (MOP) award, as she recorded averages of 21.3 points, 15.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.7 steals, and 2.5 blocks a game.
