Former South Carolina Gamecocks star and now Indiana Fever sophomore Aliyah Boston had a hilarious moment with her former coach. On Saturday, Aug. 9, right before tip-off of her regular season game with coach Stephanie White’s squad, Boston was being interviewed pre-game by her college basketball mentor in Dawn Staley on CBS Sports.
Staley, throughout the whole segment, kept placing Boston on the hot seat with consecutive, rapid-fire questions. As the interview neared its conclusion, Staley still kept chasing Boston with questions, pleading with her that it will be her final one. But, Boston tried to keep stalling her former coach hilariously by dodging her questions and wondering how she is still going.
“Aliyah Boston signature shoe incoming?!,” @CBSSports on X captioned with a pair of eyes emoji.

Their back-and-forth sequence was then posted on the CBS Sports’ official X/Twitter account, which garnered reactions from a plethora of fans and supporters especially the Gamecocks faithful. But, Staley was able to sneak in her question, which was to ask Boston when her signature sneaker is coming out. Boston, who is currently an athlete for global sportswear company Adidas, then answered Staley’s question.
“Stop it. How long they got your mic on? How long they got your mic on? When is the signature shoe? You just got to wait. It’s on the way. It’s on the way. It’s on the way. It’s on the way. I can’t stand you. No, no, you’re done with questions,” Boston said throughout the clip.
Fortunately for Boston, Staley and the rest of the Fever faithful, Indiana ended up winning their home regular season game against the Chicago Sky by 22 huge points, 92-70, which improves Boston and Co.’s current record to 18-14 and the team is sitting as the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference. In her outing, Boston dropped 15 points on an efficient 7-for-11 overall clip, four rebounds, three assists, a steal and two blocks in 24 minutes of action.
Moving on from the victory, Boston and the rest of the Fever now look on to their next game, still to be played on their homecourt in the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, against the Dallas Wings on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
Dawn Staley and Aliyah Boston Won the 2022 National Title Together
Aliyah Boston played all four years of her collegiate basketball tenure for coach Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks from 2019 to 2023. Perhaps their biggest accomplishment together is when they won the 2022 national championship. They did this by defeating coach Geno Auriemma and the UConn Huskies during that year’s NCAA championship game by 15 points, 64-49.
