“I Was Honestly Disgusted”: A’ja Wilson Breaks Silence on Napheesa Collier And WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert Fiasco

WNBA world is on flames right now. After Napheesa Collier’s statement, WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert is under the cosh. Collier questioned Engelbert’s leadership, officiating and also exposed some of the outlandish comments Engelbert made about player safety, Caitlin Clark and money deals in the league.

Multiple WNBA players have extended their support to Napheesa Collier. Most recently, finals bound A’ja Wilson reacted to the whole fiasco.

During the pregame interview after the Las Vegas Aces’ semifinal win, Wilson was asked what she made of Collier’s statement. Wilson gave her honest opinion on the whole matter.

“My honest reaction is I have not honestly heard anything or seen anything yet,” Wilson said, “I’ve kinda disconnected myself obviously because of the game today. But I know Phee.”

During the exit interview, A’ja Wilson made her feelings clear on the Napheesa Collier-WNBA commissioner fiasco.

“I just wanna say I was honestly disgusted by the comments that Cathy made. But at the same time i am very appreciative that we have people like Phee in our player association representing us. Because that’s what we are gonna have to continue to make the push to stand on what we believe in. And I’m grateful to have that type of people to continue to speak up for us. I’m gonna ride with Phee always. Because she knows she is a business girl, she has the stuff going on. We gotta stand on business.” A’ja Wilson said.

Fans React to A’ja Wilson’s Honest Opinion

Fans have supported Napheesa Collier and asked for Cathy Engelbert’s resignation from WNBA commissioner job. When A’ja Wilson reacted, fans appreciated Wilson’s take as well.

“She know what’s up but right NOW it’s game time! We can have that chat LATER,” one fan reacted on Wilson’s comments before the game.

“Smart answer. She needs to focus on the game,” another said.

“You’re going to see who really backs Phee and puts that rep on the line. They all say these things but she is the voice so it would be disappointing for the rest of the girls not to back her. If they ALL not willing to put the rep on the line then there won’t be any changes. Phee will just get bullied rest of the way out till she quits or shuts up unfortunately,” one fan voiced their opinion.

“Not the time before the game,” another fan appreciated Wilson’s comments before the game.

Fans also supported A’ja Wilson for the comments she made after the game where she supported Napheesa Collier more openly.

“Women supporting women all day long!!! She took this moment on the day of HER win to celebrate Phee and HER leadership. This is a rallying moment for all women,” one fan commented.

“I love A’ja! She could have remained quiet or danced around the question, but like a true leader, she spoke up!!! Such a class act! Love her!!! Wish more folks with platforms would speak the truth & call out nonsense,” another fan said.
