Aaliyah Chavez Redefines Scoring Excellence in 2025

Chavez, a 5’10” point guard from Monterey High School in Lubbock, Texas, has cemented her status as one of the most prolific scorers in high school basketball history.

According to the SLAM announcement, Chavez recorded an astonishing nine 50-point games throughout her dominant high school run while leading her team to the Texas state title in March. She averaged 34.9 points, 9.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 3.7 steals and 1.2 blocks per game en route to Gatorade Player of the Year honors.

Capable of creating her own shot from anywhere on the court, Chavez can drain deep threes, pull up from mid-range, or attack the rim with precision. Her ability to dominate games while also facilitating for her teammates has drawn comparisons to some of the best guards in recent memory.

Chavez racked up 4,796 career points at Monterey, which ranks second all-time in Texas history. SLAM noted that Chavez is on her “own wave,” a player who lets her game silence critics as she prepares to take her talents to the University of Oklahoma.

Breaking Down the 2025 All-American Team’s Elite Talent

The 2025 SLAM High School Girls All-American team is a showcase of diverse skill sets, with each player bringing something special to the table. Jazzy Davidson, a 5’10” guard from Clackamas, Oregon, is headed to USC with a game that blends flashiness and fundamentals.

Known for her quickness and shifty handles, Davidson can get to the rim at will, knock down shots from deep, and lock down the opposing team’s best player. Her versatility on both ends of the floor makes her a perfect fit for a USC squad coming off a Pac-12 Tournament championship.

Grace Knox, a 6’2″ wing from Etiwanda High School in California, stands out in all phases. Her athleticism is off the charts, with the ability to block shots, grab rebounds, and even throw down dunks.

Knox’s highlight-reel plays have made her a fan favorite, especially after she scored a perfect 10 at the McDonald’s All-American Game slam dunk contest. She committed to LSU, which boasts the No. 1 recruiting class in 2025 (via ESPN).

Sienna Betts, a 6’4” power forward from Grandview High School in Colorado, is set to join her older sister, Lauren Betts, at UCLA. While the two share a last name and a knack for getting buckets, Sienna has carved out her identity on the court.

The younger Betts can stretch the floor with her three-point shooting, hit step-back jumpers from mid-range, and finish strong at the rim. Her double-double at the 2025 McDonald’s All-American Game — 18 points and 10 rebounds — earned her MVP honors and showcased her readiness for the next level.

What Lies Ahead for High School Stars in College

The transition from high school to college is a significant step, but this group of All-Americans appears more than ready for the challenge. Chavez’s commitment to Oklahoma is a major coup for the Sooners as they prepare for their second season in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

With her scoring ability and playmaking, Chavez is expected to make an immediate impact in the SEC. Her ability to handle pressure and perform against top competition will be key as Oklahoma looks to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.
