A’ja Wilson is undoubtedly the best star player to grace the WNBA at the moment. After winning her fourth MVP title and third world championship last season, Wilson has definitely solidified her name within the GOAT conversations. When it was time to give her due flowers, Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony did not shy away.
On his podcast 7 PM in Brooklyn, Anthony dubbed Wilson as the podcast’s athlete and person of the year for 2025. He even exclaimed how much his eight-year-old daughter, Genesis, looks up to the 29-year-old.
“Her voice is powerful, it’s impactful,” said Anthony. “My daughter looks up to A’ja Wilson. She stamped her flag.”
Anthony also argued how Wilson’s impact can be compared to LeBron James’ not only in the WNBA, but in the entire realm of women’s sports. Also, he was impressed with Wilson never shying away from using her voice and her experiences alongside her talent to transform the W in its current stage. Comparing Wilson to Serena Williams, Melo added,
“LeBron James comprehends being in that role. A’ja has that type of impact when it comes to the women’s game, and being the face of women’s sports. For so long, we had Serena (Williams). Now we have A’ja.”

Sure enough, A’ja Wilson definitely deserves all of these flowers from Melo. Wilson has used her marketability and her platform as a public figure to speak out on behalf of her colleagues several times. She recently wrote a book about her upbringing in South Carolina called “Dear Black Girls”, which became a New York Times bestseller in 2024.
Clyde Frazier Wants A’ja Wilson to fix Bam Adebayo’s Shot
During a Sunday matchup between the Miami Heat and the New York Knicks, legendary color commentator and Hall of Famer Walt “Clyde” Frazier provided a moment of viral humor at Bam Adebayo’s expense. After the Heat center launched a three-point attempt that resulted in an airball, Frazier delivered a sharp jab on the live broadcast. Referencing Adebayo’s relationship with WNBA superstar Aja Wilson, Frazier quipped,
“Maybe his girlfriend can help him with his shooting.”
While the comment was noted as being “pretty savage,” it highlighted a rare lapse for two of basketball’s most dominant frontcourt players. Neither Adebayo nor Wilson are primarily known for their three-point shooting accolades, as they typically excel in other facets of the game, making the airball an “unfortunate shot” for the Heat star.
Despite the miss, the moment served as a testament to Frazier’s long-time reputation as an entertaining announcer, proving that even elite players aren’t safe from a bit of clever roasting when they struggle from deep.
