Alabama Kicker Will Reichard is the All-Time Leading Points Scorer in College Football

After an outstanding career with Alabama, Will Reichard ended his time in Tuscaloosa as the all-time points scorer in college football history.

Late in the 2023 season, Will Reichard became the all-time leading points scorer in college football history. During the SEC Championship game, Alabama Crimson Tide kicker Will Reichard surpassed the previous historic mark to etch his name into the record books.

Already a program and SEC record holder, Reichard secured his place in college football history during the Crimson Tide’s matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs, a defining moment in the story of the 2023 season.

Will Reichard Becomes All-Time Leading Points Scorer in College Football History

Reichard secured his place in college football history during the 2023 SEC Championship Game, surpassing former record holder Kennan Reynolds. The former Navy quarterback had held the record since the end of the 2015 season, scoring 530 points during his career with the Midshipmen. Reichard ended his Alabama career with 547 total points.

After making the decision to return to Tuscaloosa rather than declare for the 2023 NFL Draft, Reichard established himself as one of the best to ever do it for Alabama.

The record for all-time scorer in college football is the icing on the cake of a career with the Crimson Tide that set new levels of expectation for place-kicking at the program.

During his final season in Tuscaloosa, Reichard became the all-time points-scorer in the Southeastern Conference. An extra point following the first touchdown of the win over Arkansas ensured he surpassed former Auburn kicker turned Las Vegas Raider Daniel Carlson, who was the previous record holder with 480 points.

Reichard also holds the Alabama program record for 50+ yard field goals made, nailing 10 over the course of his five-year Crimson Tide career. Hitting four from the distance during his final season, he broke a record that had held firm since 1986.

In addition to his leg cannon-pounding field goals from downtown Tuscaloosa, Reichard has been extremely consistent in covering extra point attempts during his Alabama career. The fifth-year kicker — and NCAA all-time points scorer — has missed just two PATs for the Crimson Tide. His 295 completed extra points are another program record on his résumé.

The latter is hardly surprising. As a standout high school kicker at Hoover in Alabama, Reichard never missed a PAT on 109 attempts. As a result, he was considered the nation’s top kicker in the 2019 recruiting class by both ESPN and the 247 Sports Composite — attracting offers from teams across the nation including Georgia, Oregon, Oklahoma, LSU, and Auburn.

He ended up on the other side of the Iron Bowl rivalry and never looked back. Despite playing for a program renowned for a cautious approach to utilizing true freshman under Nick Saban, Reichard started what would become a record-breaking career in his first year in Tuscaloosa, winning the starting job in 2019.

Sadly, injury hampered his freshman campaign, but was an ever-present for the Crimson Tide thereafter

Reichard didn’t miss a kick of any form in 2020, earning recognition as a Lou Groza finalist and the first of many all-SEC accolades.

Under now-retied head coach Nick Saban, Alabama became the powerhouse of college football, producing some of the best players to play in the modern era. Thanks to Reichard, they’re also home to the highest-scoring player in all college football history.
