Oregon Football’s Pro Day Created Patrick Herbert’s NFL Aspirations

Among the athletes aiming to prove their worth was Patrick, a former Oregon tight end and the younger brother of Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin.

Standing at an imposing 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 255 pounds, Patrick has the physical attributes to make a strong case for himself in the 2025 NFL Draft. He has not yet spoken to the Chargers during the draft process. However, there remains a possibility that the team could take a chance on him—especially his potential to reunite the Herbert brothers in the NFL.

During the 2024 season, Patrick played in all 14 ducks games, starting six at tight end. He recorded 10 receptions for 97 yards, displaying his reliability in the passing game. While he was not invited to the NFL Combine, his performance at Oregon’s Pro Day could serve as a crucial opportunity to gain traction, especially as a late-round pick or an undrafted free agent.

Justin, one of the most beloved Oregon alumni in recent history, was on hand to support Patrick as he worked out in front of scouts. The Chargers’ franchise quarterback understands the importance of making the most of every opportunity.

Well, he surely hopes to see his brother follow in his footsteps. Given the Chargers’ need for additional pass-catching options, there is a scenario in which Patrick could end up catching passes from Justin at the professional level.

Patrick Herbert’s 2024 Season and Future Outlook

While Pro Day was a pivotal moment for prospects like Patrick and Tez, it also reflected the brotherhood within Oregon Football.

After an 11-7 season with the Chargers, Herbert led his team to the No. 5 seed in the AFC playoffs. He only had to suffer a heartbreaking loss to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card round.

Despite the early exit, Herbert’s performance throughout the season was impressive. He completed 332 of 504 passes for 3,870 yards, throwing 23 touchdowns to just three interceptions. On the ground, he added 69 rush attempts for 306 yards and two additional scores.
