Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Will Howard believes that time is the only thing he would change from his college football career. While speaking in an interview ahead of the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Howard detailed how he wished that he had more time to play for the Buckeyes and under head coach Ryan Day.
Howard has enjoyed a breakout season as the Buckeyes’ starting quarterback. He has thrown for 3,779 passing yards, 33 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions on the year. He also has seven rushing touchdowns to his name. Arguably more important, though, is the impact he has had on the Buckeyes. Howard has been instrumental in Ohio State’s success, with the team now just one win away from a national championship.
Will Howard’s One College Football Regret
Howard explained that the only thing he would change from his college playing days was time. This was Howard’s first season at Ohio State after spending his entire college career with the Kansas State Wildcats.
“The only thing I wish I could go back and do differently about my time here is I wish I had more time. I wish I had more time with Coach [Ryan] Day. I have gotten so much better because of him and Coach [Chip] Kelly and because of Billy and just being here,” Howard explained.
However, Howard made clear that there was still work to do to ensure the Buckeyes took care of business in the final game of the season.
“The job’s not finished. We got to go out there and finish this thing,” he added.
National Championship Preview, Howard’s Future
Ohio State will play Notre Dame in the National Championship Game on Jan. 20, 2025, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. The matchup between two dominant teams, two solid quarterbacks, and two impressive head coaches is expected to be a good one.
For Howard specifically, though, he is expected to be taken in the 2025 NFL Draft. According to College Football Network’s recent 7-round 2025 NFL Mock Draft completed by Cam Mellor, Howard projects to be selected No. 171 overall by the Dallas Cowboys.

Though this playoff run has most likely boosted Howard’s draft stock, it is believed that he won’t be an NFL starter immediately upon entering the league.
As a result, the Cowboys drafting Howard could make sense as the latter could develop his game at the professional level under the guidance of star quarterback Dak Prescott.
