Tulane Green Wave Football recently named their veteran assistant coach Will Hall as the program’s next head football coach as reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The announcement comes on the backdrop of current coach Jon Sumrall’s departure for Florida after leading the Green Wave to an impressive College Football Playoff berth, winning the American Conference championship

Hall has previously been the program’s offensive coordinator from 2019 to 2020, while also currently helping the Green Wave to a rank 11 college football playoff qualification, with an overall record of 11-2 so far this season.
This season, on top of being Tulane’s assistant head coach, he returned as the program’s pass game coordinator, working with Sumrall, with Tulane experiencing one of their best college football seasons in the history of the program.
Tulane now prepares for its playoff showdown against Ole Miss on December 20. While Will Hall has been announced as Tulane’s new head coach, Jon Sumrall, despite inking a massive $7.45 million annual contract with the Florida Gators, will continue coaching Green Wave football through their playoff leg this season.

Will Hall Takes Up Tulane HC Job With 25–11 Record For West Alabama
Will Hall’s journey to being named an American Conference champion and a playoff-bound team saw his early coaching days at the Division II level, where he compiled impressive records. At West Alabama, the 45-year-old head coach went 25-11 across three seasons, establishing a good reputation while also developing new talent.
Will Hall will take the Raines. Was STRONGLY endorsed by Tulane greats Michael Pratt and Tyjae Spears (who were recruited and developed by Hall).
Before he was an OC for Tulane under Fritz, he went 56-20 at the FCS level as a HC including two FCS semi final appearances. https://t.co/YJfFg3No4c

Hall’s success continued at West Georgia, where he posted a 31-9 record during another three-year stretch, which eventually led to his hiring at Southern Miss in 2021.
His tenure at Southern Miss ended with a 14-30 record over four seasons, which included a bowl victory in his second year. However, he was eventually dismissed in 2024, as Hall was let go after an 0-3 start in Sun Belt Conference play.
