Why Is Travis Hunter’s Father In Home Confinement, and How Did He Get NFL Draft Clearance?

For Thursday’s NFL Draft, Travis Hunter’s father was granted permission by the court to leave home confinement and travel to Green Bay.

As of now, Travis Hunter Sr. is serving a three-year probation period, which includes one year of mandated home confinement after pleading guilty to three counts.

Due to his confinement, he missed seeing his son, Travis Hunter, win the Heisman Trophy at the December ceremony. However, it appears the Colorado cornerback’s father will be able to attend the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay.

Travis Hunter Sr. in Home Confinement After 2023 Arrest

Travis’s father is on probation due to gun and drug charges from his arrest during a traffic stop in November 2023.

When Travis Hunter won the Heisman Trophy, he spoke directly to his father during his acceptance speech.

“All the games that you didn’t get to see me, or the times you did come to see my games. From not seeing probably two games in high school to seeing me on TV every weekend and coming to see me. That means so much to me,” he said.

“I know you wanted to be here and you can’t. But trust me, I got you. I’m bringing the trophy home. I love you,” he added.

While Hunter Sr. did miss his chance to see his son win the Heisman trophy that year, he will be able to make it to the 2025 NFL draft in Green Bay, where his son is expected to be selected among the top picks Thursday night.

The court granted clearance for Hunter Sr. to travel to the draft. According to USA Today, he will be restricted to the hotel and the draft grounds in and around Lambeau Field.

As things stand, Travis Hunter Jr. is not expected to wait long to hear his name called. Many predict the two-way star out of Colorado will be a top-five pick in the 2025 draft.

He is arguably the most unique player in college football, thanks to his incredible abilities at both wide receiver and cornerback. The cherry on top for the cornerback is that his father will be there to see him this time.
