Why Is the Clemson vs. Syracuse Game Delayed Today? Latest Updates on When the Game Will Resume

Clemson vs. Syracuse at Memorial Stadium ‘Death Valley’ in South Carolina has been delayed for an undetermined amount of time due to bad weather. The game was stopped at halftime, with the Syracuse Orange dominating the Tigers 24-14.

Not much is known about when the game will be back on air, but ESPN is expecting the delay to be a considerable one. According to the latest update, when the game returns, it will be on a different channel.

Clemson beat writer for The State Newspaper, Chapel Fowler, reported on X at 2:55 p.m. ET on Saturday, writing:

“According to the ESPN broadcast, today’s Clemson-Syracuse game (which started at noon) will be shifting off ESPN and onto a different channel at 3:30 p.m. as the game hits about a 45-minute weather delay. TBD what channel the game will resume on when it does.”

According to some reports, lightning was detected within 15 miles of Memorial Stadium around the time of the two-minute warning of the first quarter.

However, it wasn’t until the game was supposed to resume that the decision was made to delay the encounter. Both teams were about to return to the field when they were informed about the decision to delay the game due to lightning.

According to AccuWeather, rain is expected after 3:15 p.m. If there’s lightning within six miles of a sporting event, it will be stopped for at least 30 minutes.

    Clemson Crumbles Down Against Syracuse

Alarm bells started going off at Clemson right around halftime, and not just because of thunderstorms in the area. The Tigers are having an incredibly tough time against an opponent they should’ve easily defeated on paper. The Orange is currently in the lead, with a confident 10-point difference.

While the Tigers’ offense has performed acceptably, it’s their defense that has left much to be desired against Syracuse. The Orange has 303 total yards, while the Tigers have recorded 240. An important difference has been Syracuse’s 123 rushing yards, compared to Clemson’s 88.

Fans are starting to wonder if there’s something fundamentally wrong with this Clemson team, as they have already lost two games at the start of the season. While Week 1’s defeat to LSU was excusable, Week 3’s defeat to Georgia Tech was a signal that there was something wrong with the team. A defeat to Syracuse would be confirmation.

The Tigers have only managed to defeat Troy so far, in a Week 2 game (27-16).
