The Colorado Buffaloes practice camp reached a boiling point when Hall of Fame defensive tackle Warren Sapp unleashed an emotional rant on a player who was struggling with some simple defensive technique.
In a video posted on “Well Off Media” YouTube channel, Sapp said:
“Where was your player? You tell me loud. Where was your player?” (6:28)
The incident escalated as Sapp focused in on basic technique issues.
“Who the hell teaches you stab? Who teaches you stab?” he shouted.
The veteran coach and Hall of Famer grew more agitated in his attempt to correct the mistakes.
“Can you trust me? Please trust her. Trust me. There’s no stab in the inside. There’s no stabbing inside. You stab that ground,” Sapp continued.
In the end, he delivered his final message about the importance of a fundamental technique.
“He ain’t got no knife. What you stabbing? Get off,” Sapp concluded, emphasizing that defenders must attack the right targets.
This altercation is symptomatic of the championship-level standards established under Colorado football since the arrival of Deion Sanders. Coach Prime assembled a coaching staff with former NFL stars, providing a professional standard on a collegiate practice field.

Warren Sapp brings NFL intensity to Colorado Buffaloes defensive coaching role
Warren Sapp’s transition from NFL icon to college coach represents a major investment in the Buffaloes’ defensive future. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers legend earned his coaching certifications after completing a degree in Christian sports management in 2023, specifically so that he could return to teaching the game of football.
Sapp’s playing record indicates the credibility he has on a staff in Boulder. Seven Pro Bowl selections and a Super Bowl win with Tampa Bay has established Sapp as one of the most dominant defensive tackles of his time.
That demanding style of play fits Deion Sanders’ vision perfectly. The Colorado football program is entering the 2025 season with expectations of winning a Big 12 title, and the College Football Playoff, which will require precise execution.
The opener against Georgia Tech on Aug. 29 at Folsom Field is already sold-out, reflecting the hype that follows the program. That kind of excitement from the fans puts additional expectations on players to perform at the professional level set by their coaches such as Warren Sapp.
