Nick Emmanwori: From Family Roots to Success

Born on Feb. 7, 2004, in Greensboro, North Carolina, Nick Emmanwori moved to Irmo, South Carolina, at age 7. He later attended Irmo High School, where he earned a 3-star recruiting grade as a senior before committing to South Carolina over Georgia Southern and UNC Charlotte.

Emmanwori is one of five brothers. One of his siblings, Okachi, played cornerback at Wofford College. Their mother, Justina Emmanwori, raised the family, though no public details are known about their father.

When he arrived at South Carolina, coaches initially considered him at linebacker before settling him at safety. He quickly justified that decision, posting 11 and 14 tackles in his first two starts against Arkansas and Georgia.

By the end of his freshman season in 2022, Emmanwori had notched a team-best 78 tackles and was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team.

He continued to develop into one of the top defensive backs in the nation. In 2024, he earned first-team All-SEC honors and was selected as a first-team All-American by the Associated Press. His NFL Combine showing—highlighted by a 4.38-second 40-yard dash and 91 athleticism score—solidified his rising status as a pro prospect.
