    Who is Luke Weaver? All About QB Winning Hearts for Hawaii Bowl Display

    The Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors completed an incredible comeback, thanks in large part to backup quarterback Luke Weaver, who came in as a replacement after quarterback Micah Alejado was injured.

    Weaver became an overnight sensation in the 2025 Sheraton Hawaiʻi Bowl on Christmas Eve after he completed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Nick Cenacle with just 10 seconds remaining. He put the arms on one of the most incredible comebacks in bowl history.

    “That’s what every football dreams about,” Weaver said via Mitch Riberal of KHON2 News.

    Hawaiʻi football head coach Timmy Chang shared his reaction on the game-winning pass from Weaver:

    “That was a hell of a throw by Luke.”

    Who Is Luke Weaver?

    Luke Weaver, who is #2 on Hawaiʻi’s QB depth chart, hails from Manteca, California. He is 6-foot-3 tall and weighs 195 pounds. Weaver majored in communicology and has two siblings, an older brother and an older sister. He was born to parents Mark and Lisa Weaver.

    He went to East Union High School and was a four-sport athlete there in football, basketball, volleyball and golf.  As a senior, he recorded 3,173 passing yards and 31 TDs, while also posting new single-season records in several offensive stats. Under him as the starting quarterback, East Union recorded its first playoff win in nearly three decades. During his time in East Union, he was named to the all-Valley Oak League first team, won four MVPs and also won the Brandon Burlsworth Character Award. Not only that, he was a basketball star as well, winning the MVP award twice and once earning the Coach’s award.

    Before coming to Hawai’i, Weaver played three seasons for Modesto Junior College in California. He redshirted his first year after suffering an injury in the third game of the season. He recorded 5,332 passing yards and 44 touchdowns in two full seasons as a starter and led them to back-to-back Valley Conference titles. He was even named a 3C2A All-American quarterback last season.
