LSU’s Mason Taylor is one of those NFL Draft names that simply cannot be ignored. Even in a crowded wideout room featuring first-round studs Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr., the tight end still managed to make a name for himself.
Taylor’s chemistry with quarterbacks Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier made him a reliable option down the middle. And he’s been walking the path of greatness since his freshman year.
Nobody can forget the 2-point conversion that led to Alabama’s loss in 2022. Now, with his Pro Day right around the corner, all eyes are on Taylor. But behind the LSU playmaker is a last name that carries serious NFL stature.

Who Is the Man Behind Mason Taylor?
Taylor did not just get the football genes from anyone. He is the son of none other than the defensive terror, Jason Taylor. Now, that’s a name Dolphins fans will never forget. Jason had a 5-year NFL career, most of which was spent with the Miami Dolphins.
Jason ranks No. 7 all-time in NFL history with 139.5 sacks. He has flipped many games during his time. Defensive linemen don’t typically score touchdowns, but Jason Taylor did that, too. He was relentless, and it seems like Mason has picked that up, too.
Mason’s father is a six-time Pro Bowler, two-time AFC Defensive Player of the Year, NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2006, and the Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2007. If that wasn’t enough, he also holds the record for most games played by a defensive player in Dolphins history. Jason played 204 games, including 130 straight.
Jason and Mason’s mum, Katina, was married for years before divorcing in 2015. Katina is actually Zach Thomas’s sister. Zach Thomas, also known as the “baby elephant,” was Jason’s teammate and played with the Miami Dolphins up until 2007. Evidently, Mason Taylor is football royalty.
Since the divorce, Jason has remarried and welcomed another son with Monica Taylor. Mason and his brother Isaiah both followed in their dad’s footsteps. And Isaiah went to Arizona. Jason Taylor is still in the game but as a coach. He is the defensive ends coach for the Miami Hurricanes.
To make it even better, Jason is Mason’s biggest supporter. Going into draft days, Jason even advised his son and reminded him, saying, “Just be where your feet are, and enjoy the process,” recalled Mason.
