Who Is Colorado’s Starting QB Today? All We Know About Deion Sanders’ Lineup Decision Following Week 1 Loss

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders watched all offseason as Kaidon Salter and Julian Lewis competed for the starting quarterback job. Out of camp, Salter won the job and was named the Week 1 starter against Georgia Tech three days before the game. While Colorado ended up losing the game, Salter did not play poorly. He was not a game breaker, but he played a solid game, completing 17 of 28 passing attempts for 159 yards and one TD. He also rushed for 43 yards and a TD on 13 carries.

The Colorado Buffaloes are now getting ready for a matchup against the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens in Week 2 of the season. The matchup is slated to kick off on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET. In the game, Deion Sanders indicated this week that both Salter and Lewis will play in the game.

Deion Sanders has not made an announcement saying Kaidon Salter will not start. As a result, the expectation is still for him to get the start against Delaware. However, Coach Prime spoke on Tuesday about how he wants Lewis to get in the game.

“I know when I’m going to see him,” Deion Sanders said. “You just don’t know when you’re going to see him.”

When asked directly if Lewis would start, Coach Prime pushed back.

“Can we take one thing at a time?” Deion Sanders said. “I just told you he was playing. Now, you saying he’s starting. Come on, dawg. He’s playing, alright? He’s playing.”

Deion Sanders Spoke About What He Wants From Kaidon Salter

While many fans and analysts are focused on Julian Lewis getting his first snaps, Coach Prime is still trying to figure out who his best option is at quarterback. Earlier this week, he spoke about how he wants to see Salter run the ball more.

“I don’t want him to prove to us that he could throw the ball,” Deion Sanders said. “We know he could throw the ball. He’s a dual threat, and we want him to be a dual threat. But I don’t think we lost the game because of Kaidon Salter, by any means, he put us in a situation to win.”
