The latest press reports are that the Arkansas Razorbacks are set to hire Alex Golesh to be their next head coach. The Hogs started the revolving door of Power Four head coaches this season when they dismissed Sam Pittman on Sept. 28th. Since then, they have been under Bobby Petrino as interim head coach, but it seems they have found their new man in the South Florida coach.

Let us check Golesh’s background.

Alex Golesh Coaching Career
The Arkansas Razorbacks have decided to go with a coach with relatively low experience at the head coaching side of things. Golesh has only been a head coach with the South Florida Bulls so far, with a 22-15 record between 2023 and today. Before that, he was an offensive coordinator at Tennessee (2021 and 2022) and a co-offensive coordinator at UCF (2020).
He spent a lot of time as a tight end coach at Iowa State (2016-2019), Illinois (2012-2015), and Toledo (2009-2011). He was also a graduate assistant at Oklahoma State (2008) and at Northern Illinois (2006 and 2007), and a student assistant at Ohio State (2004-2005).
How Much Does Alex Golesh Make?
Alex Golesh makes some $2.5 million in South Florida, according to USA Today. He’s the 63rd best-paid coach in college football in 2025, below UCLA’s DeShaun Foster and above UTSA’s Jeff Taylor. There’s also a potential $1.25 million bonus in his contract, but he has just managed to cash in $85,000.
How Far Can Alex Golesh Take Arkansas?
The life of the post-2010s Bobby Petrino’s Arkansas Razorbacks has been disappointment after disappointment. The Hogs always seem on the verge of pulling amazing upsets, but they buckle down under pressure and lose games in the most outrageous of circumstances.
If Alex Golesh is really going to Arkansas that’s the last we’ll hear of him
Great coach but just a dead end job
You have to make miracles happen to be a top 5 team in your own conference

While it can be said that living in the SEC helps them in terms of recruitment, they seem completely outmatched by the conference at this point, particularly since the introduction of Texas and Oklahoma.
The best they have managed in almost 15 years is a 9-4 season under Sam Pittman. That was accompanied by some mediocre 7-6 and 8-5 seasons under Pittman and Bret Bielema. It honestly doesn’t look like they can do much better unless they invest more in their program, so the best they could do under Alex Golesh is honestly a bowl season.
