Inside Tre Harris’ Roots: Meet the Parents of the Ole Miss Wideout
Cleveland Joseph “Tre” Harris III, a key contributor at wide receiver for the Ole Miss Rebels, credits his relentless drive and discipline to the values instilled by his parents, Cleveland Harris Jr. and Delana Harris Jr.
His father, Cleveland, has spent more than 25 years working in the oil fields—a physically demanding profession that often required long stretches away from home. Despite the distance, Cleveland made time to be present in Tre’s development, reinforcing the importance of giving maximum effort.
“I got my work ethic from both my parents,” said Harris, a native of Lafayette, Louisiana. “My dad is a blue-collar worker who has been at it in the oil fields for 25 years. I’ve watched the amount of work he’s put in to put a roof over my head and my family’s head all these years.”
Cleveland’s consistent message to his son,
“Be dominant in everything”—became a foundational mindset for Tre. “I didn’t want to be a dominant receiver, I wanted to be a dominant player,” Harris said. “It’s not something I had to think about. That’s what I live by.”
While Cleveland worked away from home, Delana kept the household grounded. She raised Tre and his three sisters, managing everything from school schedules to practices. Her dedication was evident—she hasn’t missed a single Ole Miss home game.
Harris calls her a constant force.
“My dad could be in the oil fields for two or three months at a time, and my mom was there by herself with three girls and a boy,” he said. “I’ve never seen her with her head down or complaining.”
