Behind every rising star, a support system often operates in the shadows. For South Carolina Gamecocks’ rising talent, LaNorris Sellers, that foundation is his parents, Norris Sellers and Cheryl Ford. Norris and Ford are the birth parents of the star quarterback, who, even after their divorce, do their best to support their son’s career.

All You Need To Know About Lanorris Sellers’ Parents
Cheryl Ford and Norris Sellers have been divorced since 2019. “We talk every day about our kids,” Ford told The State. They coordinate travel to away games and tailgate together, as they did before the Old Dominion game, joined by Ford’s mother, Eleanor, and Sellers’ father, Norris Sellers Sr.
This arrangement makes sure that their children, including LaNorris and his younger brother Jayden, who is a South Carolina wide receiver commit, can focus on their goals. “If it were any different, our kids wouldn’t be able to focus,” Ford said.
Their support was very evident during the season opener. Seated in Section 21, Ford went through a rollercoaster of emotions as Sellers fumbled and missed key passes. “Come on, baby,” she whispered as he faced a critical moment. When Sellers darted into the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown, Ford erupted, waving her towel in celebration.

Sellers, watching from the recruits’ section with Jayden, later noted Sellers’ post-game performance: “He knows the potential of his team. He doesn’t like making mistakes.”
Sellers’ work ethic traces back to his roots in Florence. He led his team to the 2021 4A State Championship at South Florence High School, passing for 2,948 yards and 45 touchdowns while rushing for 1,338 yards and 17 scores, per the Gamecocks’ official website.
Sellers showed early promise, was named the 2021 Florence Morning News Player of the Year, and the 2022 Shrine Bowl offensive MVP. However, as Sellers shared with the Greenville News, even after the championship, Sellers stayed humble, focusing on household chores while Florence celebrated.
In 2024, Sellers emerged as a key figure for South Carolina, earning the Joe Morrison Offensive Player of the Spring award. Against Old Dominion, he completed 10 of 23 passes for 114 yards and rushed for 50 yards, including the decisive touchdown, per ESPN Stats & Info. Coach Shane Beamer praised his resilience, saying, “LaNorris never flinches. He’s a leader who learns from every snap.”
Like his childhood admiration for NFL quarterback Cam Newton, Sellers’ drive derives from inspiration. At 11, he wrote Newton a letter, a story Ford shared with the Greenville News.
