Kaidon Salter’s Family: Pillars of Inspiration and Support
Salter was born on April 4, 2003, in Cedar Hill, Texas. He was raised by a religious, disciplined, and determined family. His parents, Kenneth Salter and Mistee Salter, have inspired him as far as his character and athletics are concerned.
Kenneth Salter, a football player himself, was the first to teach Kaidon the fundamentals of the sport. He emphasized the need to work hard and be committed. Mistee Salter ensured that Kaidon’s non-athletic life was as nurtured as his athletic development.
The Salter family’s commitment to each other was strongly reflected in Kaidon Salter’s transition into college football. When Kaidon Salter went on to attend the University of Tennessee, the family had a difficult experience. Kenneth Salter caught COVID-19 on their trip to Knoxville and was admitted to the ICU.
Mistee Salter, who had to cope with a new city and her husband’s critical condition, was Kaidon Salter’s pillar of strength. This has kept him focused on his burgeoning football star. This meeting proved the stability of the family and the strength of their marriage.
Kaidon Salter’s other brothers have also played significant roles in his life. His brother, Kylan Salter, is TCU’s sophomore linebacker, and that is their family sporting legacy. The Salter family, built on love and discipline, has been the stepping stone upon which Kaidon Salter’s success has been founded.
Salter’s Football Career Went From Cedar Hill to Colorado
Kaidon Salter’s football career began at Cedar Hill High School, where he was an instant dual-threat quarterback. He gained over 5,500 yards passing and 52 touchdowns, and 1,621 yards rushing and 26 touchdowns.
And his high school experience was nothing less than spectacular. His performances wowed the top-ranked college programs, and he committed to the University of Tennessee.
But off-field issues marred his time in Tennessee, and he was released before ever seeing the field. Not to be deterred, Kaidon Salter transferred to Liberty University, where he restored his career.
In 2023, he led the Flames to a 13-0 regular season, capturing the Conference USA title and appearing in the Fiesta Bowl. His dual-threat abilities were on full display, as he threw for 2,876 yards and 32 touchdowns and rushed for 1,089 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Following success at Liberty, Kaidon Salter entered the transfer portal seeking a new opportunity and challenge. He moved his services to the Colorado Buffaloes in coach Deion Sanders’ program because he was drawn by the vision of the program and wanted to continue to develop his skills.
“Pat Shurmur is perhaps America’s top quarterback coach and offense coordinator,” Kaidon Salter said as he credited the staff with making the correct choice. “The passing-yardage figures and completion percentages Shedeur Sanders did last season and all he achieved are something that I took as an admiration, and of course, it led me to commit here.”

At Colorado, Kaidon Salter will compete for the starting quarterback job with five-star true freshman Julian Lewis. He is focusing on being a pass-first quarterback and exploiting the Buffaloes’ dynamic receiving corps.
“I came here to throw the ball,” Kaidon Salter stated, recognizing that he needs to work on his passing game but not lose his natural running ability.
