The Florida Gators have long since been at the pinnacle of the sport. Root for them or root for their failure, college football is better when the Gators are good on Saturdays.
Fortunately for the sport, the Gators have been good for some time, specifically on offense, where they own the nation’s longest streak of scoring points.
Florida’s Last Shutout Came 36 Years Ago
That’s right, the last time the Gators were shut out of a football game came back in 1988 when they lost at home to the Auburn Tigers.
The day was October 29, when Auburn shut out Florida 16-0. They have scored in every game since, the nation’s longest active streak of scoring in major college football.
As of Week 11 of the 2024 season, that record has been extended to 457 games in which the Gators have scored points. Entering the halftime break of their Week 11 game against Texas, Florida looked on the brink of being shutout, down 35-0 to the Longhorns.
However, a mid-third-quarter field goal kept their scoring streak alive for another game.
When Was the Last Time Florida Was Shut Out On the Road?
With their last shut out coming at home, it’s remarkable that you have to go back even further to find the last time that the Gators were shut out on the road. In fact, you have to go back six seasons earlier to their neutral site game against an arch-rival to find that.
The last time Florida was shut out on the road came in 1982 when they traveled to Jacksonville to play the Georgia Bulldogs, losing that year’s meeting by a score of 44-0. The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party (as it was called at the time) was indeed no fun festivity for the Gators.
