In an era defined by the NCAA transfer portal, Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson defies the norm. Instead of pursuing other possibilities, Simpson has decided to stay with the Crimson Tide, stating his desire to be a part of head coach Kalen DeBoer’s inaugural national championship team.

Despite his limited playing time behind Jalen Milroe, Simpson’s dedication to Alabama has never slumped. In two seasons, he has completed 15 of 25 passes for 214 yards and 86 rushing yards with two touchdowns. His decision to stay illustrates a strong belief in the program’s future under DeBoer.
Head coach DeBoer has openly acknowledged Simpson’s commitment and leadership abilities. “You certainly appreciate what he’s done,” DeBoer said.
“Just continued to work on what he can control—that’s himself. Continued to build relationships to get ready for this chance that he has right in front of him to not just step up as a leader… but to have that opportunity to step in and be the quarterback.”
With Milroe’s departure to the NFL, the starting quarterback position is open. Simpson will compete against freshman Keelon Russell and Washington transfer Austin Mack. However, his expertise and familiarity with the team’s dynamics make him an ideal fit for the role.
