    CFP Selection Show Details

The Selection Show will be on Sunday, Dec 7 at 12 PM ET. It will then reveal its 12 teams that will make the field. The normal show will start with the top 25 leading itself up into the bracket. The show will go to 3 PM ET and will be available to watch on ESPN.

    Selection Format

Last year, the playoffs for college football were changed indefinitely after the committee moved from a four-team to a twelve-team playoff. This year, the CFP follows the same format as last year, but has changed slightly. The previous format last year had 12 teams, with the top 4 conference champions getting a bye into the first round. This year, it will simply be the top 4 teams. That could be two Big 10 teams and two SEC on bye if the committee ranks them in the Top 4 of their rankings.

The other things to note from a format perspective are that there are 5 automatic bids. The bids are broken up into two groups. The Power 4 winners and the Group of 5 highest-ranked teams. The other seven teams will be the next 7 teams in the committee’s top 25 rankings. For example, if your team is at 11, they could be out. If two Conference champions are behind them, they will jump your team.

    Bracket Format

From the bracket, it is pretty simple. The 5-12 seeds all play each other in the first round. The 5-8 seeds will host their opponents on their campus. After that, they will play the next round in the New York Six Bowls against the top 4 seeds. From there, the semi-finals and eventually the national championship.

    Final Thoughts

This Sunday will be a must-watch if you like college football. You don’t even have to love it to tune in. The committee is knee deep in drama on who they will let in and leave out. It should be extremely interesting based on Friday’s and Saturday’s games. If your team is in the hunt, get comfortable because this could get interesting.
