The Michigan Wolverines were down more than their fair share of players when they kicked off the ReliaQuest Bowl against the Alabama Crimson Tide on New Year’s Eve. However, they still had QB Davis Warren, a starter in nine games this season.
After jumping out to a quick 16-0 lead, the second quarter and ultimately second half began a different story for the Wolverines. And their game got even more bleak following an injury sustained on a third-down sack of Warren.
What Happened to Davis Warren?
Up six points and on their own 30-yard line, Warren needed to convert a 3rd & 9 to keep momentum on the side of the Wolverines. He took a shotgun snap with 11:48 left in the third quarter, scanned the field and immediately broke the pocket to his right side.
When he reached the sidelines, he was met by Alabama’s James Smith. Warren attempted to shake Smith at the sidelines, but Smith was too strong and brought Warren down as his legs were bent up and rolled underneath him.

Warren tried to limp off to the sidelines but ultimately fell to his feet and ripped his helmet off in some pain.
The broadcast explained that Warren was still be evaluated after spending just three minutes in the blue injury tent. He then went back to the locker room but reportedly told teammates, “Go finish,” as he walked back to the locker room for further tests.
CFN will update this as any news of Warren’s injury are available.
Alex Orji Next Man Up for Michigan
The starter in the remaining games for Michigan, Alex Orji will step into the starting role behind center in Warren’s place. It is notable that Orji is currently in the transfer portal, but able to play in this game as he’ll apparently transfer to his next destination next semester.

Orji took three snaps on the following drive and mishandled a snap and executed just two running plays. It’s a run-first offense with Orji in place it appears.
