The Texas A&M Aggies found themselves favored over the LSU Tigers in their highly-anticipated Week 9 matchup. On the biggest stage, the winner of the A&M-LSU game would have the leg up on the SEC race in 2024 as well.
But after a few series on offense, it was clear that A&M had an issue. It was a Conner Weigman issue.
What Happened to Conner Weigman?
As it stands right now, nothing has happened to Conner Weigman other than he was simply outplayed by his backup after he was benched in favor of Marcel Reed. Weigman threw for 64 yards on 6-of-18 passing and was unable to lead much of a consistent offense at all.
It didn’t help that Reed led a scoring drive on the next drive after Weigman was removed from the game.
But that’s been the case for most of the season. After flashing brilliant potential a year ago, Weigman was injured and missed the majority of the season. He entered his redshirt sophomore season with high expectations but largely has not lived up to those.
When Weigman isn’t in the lineup, the A&M offense just feels and looks different.
Fortunately for Aggie fans, Reed has been waiting in the wings and has played relatively well in relief of Weigman the past two seasons, especially in 2024.
Against LSU, Reed led the Aggies back into the lead with two rushing touchdowns on his first two possessions. Before the action, he had totaled eight touchdowns in relief of Weigman, six through the air and two on the ground.

The future is bright for Weigman, but after this latest episode on the field, his future may not be in College Station. Credit to him, however, as he’s been seen on the sidelines cheering on his replacement after two scoring drives against LSU.
