Notre Dame Fighting Irish left tackle Anthonie Knapp left the Orange Bowl in the second quarter and headed straight to the locker room. It appears as though quarterback Riley Leonard landed on him in an awkward fashion.
Anthonie Knapp Injury Update
Knapp was injured and skipped the medical tent and went directly to the locker room. It appears as though quarterback Riley Leonard landed on him in an awkward fashion. The injury and his response to it did not look good. He was immediately replaced by Tosh Baker.
The injury loss, however long Knapp’s absence may be in the game, is significant for the Fighting Irish as they face a Nittany Lions defensive unit that has been dominant for the most part of the 2024 college football season.
The Penn State defense has caused havoc for Notre Dame quarterback Leonard in the early going of the game, and the loss of their star left tackle cannot be understated.
Knapp earned a spot on the CFN Freshman All-American Team following his debut season in South Bend. Although he was beaten to Freshman Offensive Tackle of the Year honors by Colorado Buffaloes standout Jordan Seaton, Knapp had been pivotal to the Fighting Irish’s run to the College Football Playoff.
At the time of writing, Knapp remained in uniform on the sideline of the 2025 Capital One Orange Bowl but had been unable to return to the game. The latest update from the ESPN sideline report suggested that he could barely put any weight on the injured leg, making a return to the action unlikely.
However, CFN will keep you apprised of the latest on the Knapp injury situation as the College Football Playoff semifinal progresses.
