The Michigan Wolverines came to Columbus, Ohio, and upset the 20-point favorites, the Ohio State Buckeyes, in the 2024 edition of “The Game.” However, the battle between the two bitter rivals extended far beyond the on-field matchup.
The Game: Michigan-Ohio State Football Bout Ends in Brawl
As has become somewhat of a tradition in major rivalries, the Wolverines brought their flag to the middle of the field and attempted to plant it on the Ohio State logo following their fourth straight victory over the Buckeyes. Unsurprisingly, the home players, fueled by raw emotions, didn’t take the gesture kindly.
They rushed over and began ripping at the flag and pushing Michigan players, igniting a brawl that required mace from police officers to separate the two sides.

Michigan RB Kalel Mullings, who made multiple game-altering plays, shared his feelings about the brawl in a postgame interview, putting the majority of the blame on Ohio State players.
“You hate to see stuff like that after the game. It’s just bad for the sport, bad for CFB… They gotta learn how to lose man. You can’t be fighting.”@JennyTaft speaks with Michigan’s Kalel Mullings after a fight broke out between Ohio State and Michigan after the game ⬇️ pic.twitter.com/z6rmxu2YJQ

Big Ten officials could decide to dole out disciplinary actions, especially with the event occurring on national television, not to mention in front of the 100,000+ fans in attendance at Ohio Stadium.
While both programs await any future decisions there, Ohio State fans have already begun calling for head coach Ryan Day’s job, pointing to a national championship-or-bust mentality in Columbus to end the 2024 campaign.
