The Saturday Egg Bowl showdown between the Ole Miss Rebels and Mississippi State at the Davis Wade Stadium has added another subplot to the game.
Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin, while speaking to ESPN’s Marty Smith, revealed that Ole Miss’ locker room was raided and broken into by Mississippi State students at 3 am.
Kiffin further explained how star quarterback Trinidad Chambliss’ jersey was stolen as a result of the robbery, with assistant AD for equipment operations Ken Crain setting up covert surveillance cameras to record the action.
Lane Kiffin tells me on the field pregame that Miss St. students broke into Ole Miss locker room at 3am and stole Trinidad Chambliss’ jersey.
The great Ken Crain, Ole Miss’ equipment czar, set up Covert surveillance cameras. Because of course he did.

“Shoot, at 10 o’clock last night—luckily, our great Ken Crane, our equipment manager, hid secret cameras in the locker room so we could watch Mississippi State break into our locker room and start stealing things,” Kiffin revealed.
“We reported to Mississippi State, they said they’d put security, and how about this? At 3 o’clock in the morning they break in again and take Trinidad [Chambliss]’s jersey. So I guess you expect nothing less from these people”, he further explained.
These off-field shenanigans before the Bowl game highlight the true nature of the showdown’s rivalry.
The term “Egg Bowl” was first coined by Tom Patterson of the media outlet The Clarion-Ledger back in 1979. Golden Egg is also the name of the trophy that both these teams fight for, with a win deciding where the trophy will reside until the next bowl is played.

Ole Miss Start Egg Bowl With 14-7 Lead Over Bulldogs
The Egg Bowl began with Ole Miss receiving an opening kickoff, wasting no time marching down the field. Thanks to Trinidad Chambliss and Harrison Wallace’s link-up play, Kewan scored a 32-yard touchdown to give the Rebels an early 7-0 lead in the game.
The Bulldogs, however, did not hold back as they started a drive that eventually amounted to an impressive 97-yard score, resulting in a 22-yard touchdown by quarterback Kamario Taylor to tie the game 7-7.
That lead did not hold for too long, as Ole Miss, with Trinidad Chambliss and Harrison Wallace linking up once again for a touchdown, gave Ole Miss a seven-point lead over their Egg Bowl rivals.
The scoreline now reads 14-7 in favor of Ole Miss with less than 5 minutes left in the first quarter.
