Social media lit up thanks to Mercedes Sapp, daughter of NFL Hall of Fame defensive tackle Warren Sapp, after the University of South Florida Bulls shocked the Florida Gators in an improbable upset.
In a stunning finish, the Bulls kicked a last-second field goal to secure an 18 to 16 victory and cause an upset.
For Sapp, also a staffer at USF, her elation was real, and she showed it in her post with everyone to see. As the USF faithful erupted, she posted a video of the chaotic crowd, captioned “chaos in the swamp.”
Another clip of the action on the field, she labeled “Insanityyyy!” Sapp also claimed The Swamp was “bull territory” over a picture showing the final score.
The game on September 6, 2025, will be etched in USF history. The Bulls entered the contest as heavy 18.5-point underdogs. They had never beaten the Gators in their previous four encounters. This win was also their first over a ranked opponent on the road in fourteen years.
The win could not have been more dramatic. Kicker Nico Gramatica calmly kicked a 20-yard field goal as time expired. The kick finished the chaotic last drive for the Bulls. Florida’s lack of discipline certainly helped that game-winning drive.
Florida committed two crucial penalties on that final possession. A pass interference call gave USF a fresh set of downs. Then, an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for spitting moved the Bulls comfortably into field goal range. It was a theme for the Gators, who racked up 11 penalties for 103 yards.

NIL Engagement Coordinator Mercedes Celebrates Historic USF Win
Mercedes Sapp is currently working in the athletic department of USF, assisting current student-athletes.
Her official title is Student-Athlete Enhancement and NIL Engagement Coordinator, overseeing student NIL education, DEI, Personal Branding, and Finance.
In a final post, Sapp posted a snippet from the game with the caption If USF can be a playoff team.
“The face of pure happiness,” she captioned.
“yes yes we are!”, she further wrote.
The shocking outcome puts Florida head coach Billy Napier in a boiling hot seat. The home loss to an in-state Group of 5 rival is an absolute disaster. The team’s ongoing penalty issues and red zone inability were glaring. Napier’s team was unable to take advantage of opportunities during the entire game.
While Mercedes enjoyed the celebration in Florida, her father is having an impact of his own elsewhere. Warren Sapp is currently the Defensive Pass Rush Coordinator for the Colorado Buffaloes. He is part of Deion Sanders’ staff.
