Warren Sapp, the Hall of Fame defensive tackle, came to the Colorado training camp and delivered an emphatic message to his defensive linemen that sounded like the old days.
“[Go] at him. Have him sit down… Put him in a seat. You have sweet feet. You have to sit him down.” Sapp said to his D-line group. (11:00)
Warren Sapp will enter his second college football season under Deion Sanders at Colorado. In the last season, he served as a senior quality control analyst and was promoted to a role of Pass rush coordinator for the 2025 season.
Sapp has not always regarded coaching as his occupation. In an interview with reporters in August, Sapp opened up about his previous intention not to coach.
“I never had it in mind that I wanted this job in my life. And now I have become an addict,” he said.
The Hall of Famer has thrown himself into film study, recruiting, and player development with a newfound purpose. His change seems to highlight that he is no longer drifting; he is all in with his place in Boulder.

What’s Next for Colorado in 2025?
Following a spectacular 2024 season of a 9-4 record that had the Buffs finishing inside the final top-25 ranking, Colorado will now have to rebound. Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter is off to the NFL, and the team begins 2025 with new problems and prospects.
After losing Hunter, Shedeur Sanders, and other major starters, the Buffaloes still have returning leaders who include Arden Walker, Amari McNeill, and transfer Jaheim Oatis on the defensive front.
Another important announcement made by the coach, Deion Sanders, currently in his third season, is that he is cancer-free after undergoing a successful surgery. Thus, he should be able to stand on the sidelines to lead the team in the upcoming season.
Nationally, Colorado is a little under the radar in the 2025 preseason poll, as they only got one vote. This has led to some “national skepticism,” according to Sports Illustrated, considering the Buffs finished inside the top 25 in those final rankings in 2024.
Deion Sanders Jr. seemed pretty unsurprised by the new saying, “I don’t think anybody over here expected to be ranked,” in one of his latest tweets.

Colorado will challenge a potentially strenuous Big 12 slate this season based on the first AP Poll, with signature Big 12 contests all over the schedule. Most notably, their last two games of the season are vs Arizona State (Nov. 22) at home, and at Kansas State (Nov. 29) in Manhattan.
