Vernon Davis’ Advice to Travis Hunter

Hunter is regarded as the best overall player and athlete in the upcoming NFL Draft. He’s highly respected for his rare ability to excel on both sides of the ball, playing wide receiver on offense and cornerback on defense.

This past season, he put together one of the greatest individual performances in college football history, dominating at an elite level on both offense and defense.

On offense, Hunter recorded 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns. On defense, he totaled 35 tackles, 11 pass deflections, four interceptions, and a forced fumble — made even more impressive by the fact that opposing quarterbacks avoided throwing his way most of the time.

His outstanding numbers earned him both the Heisman Trophy and the Biletnikoff Award. Despite these incredible achievements, Hunter remains hungry for more, focused on his pursuit of greatness.

Earlier this week, Davis joined Hunter’s podcast to talk about his journey and share valuable advice on how to stand out and become a great NFL player. During the interview, Davis made a statement that really stood out to Hunter.

“There’s a difference between greatness and being good,” Davis said.

After hearing that, Hunter asked an interesting question.

“How do you keep that mindset with such a long season?” Hunter asked.

Davis responded while also giving high praise to Hunter.

“If I can imagine, we think alike. I noticed for 14 years of my career that I was the only person outside catching extra footballs. It’s a difference, man,” Davis said. “You fall in the category of great, and I think you keep that by staying true to the foundation you’ve built. Everything that got you to where you are now — keep it.”

Hunter’s talent and mindset have already put him on a special path, but Davis’ advice could help him unlock his full potential at the next level.

With his rare ability to dominate on both sides of the ball and his willingness to learn from those who have been there before, Hunter has all the tools to succeed in the NFL and leave a legacy of greatness.
