When Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia eventually graduates from collegiate football, it seems as though the program has found his replacement. On Saturday, Nov. 29, college football analyst Josh Newberg uploaded a video to his X/Twitter page of a snippet from a recent episode of the Rivals podcast through which his co-host, Steve Wiltfong, talked about this matter.
According to Wiltfong, the No. 1 nationally-ranked recruit in the high school class of 2026, Jared Curtis, is seriously considering de-committing from his initial commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs and instead playing out his freshman year with coach Clark Lea’s Commodores. Wiltfong then confirmed that there are serious conversations going on with Curtis’ camp and the Commodores.
“You started the show off saying there’s Jared Curtis rumors. These aren’t rumors. Jared Curtis’s camp is having dialogue with Vanderbilt, and Clark Lea signing his extension was a major piece to the puzzle for the Commodores that you keep the five star from Nashville Christian home. Having knowing that Clark Lea was gonna be here long term, which also means that offensive coordinator, Tim Beck will be here long-term is exciting to Jared Curtis who wants to play right away,” Wilftong shared. “I think as it gets closer to putting pen to paper and locking in your college future, playing early is very important to Jared. He doesn’t wanna sit,” he added.
“These aren’t rumors – Jared Curtis and his camp are having conversations with Vanderbilt.”

Curtis is currently playing out his final year of high school football at Nashville Christian High School this year. If he does commit to the Commodores, then it is likely he will be their 2026 starting quarterback, given that the aforementioned Pavia is expected to declare for next year’s NFL Draft. Vanderbilt just finished off the 2025 regular season with a 10-2 overall record (6-2 SEC).

Jared Curtis Committed To The Georgia Bulldogs Back On May Of This Year
The recent reports of Jared Curtis possibly shifting his commitment to the Vanderbilt Commodores come as a surprise, as he previously committed to coach Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs back in May of this year. He then had his official campus visit a month later in June, but it seems as though the Bulldogs will have to match offers with Vanderbilt. The Bulldogs currently lead the SEC with an 11-1 record (7-1 SEC).
