Breaking Down the Slate: What to Expect in 2025

The season gets underway on the right note with a tough road trip to Texas A&M on Aug. 30. The Aggies, a classic SEC powerhouse, will be a massive test for the Roadrunners. This will be a gigantic early-season test for UTSA, and if they can fare well against a team this strong, it will position them for the potential of a good season. A win here could also make the Roadrunners confident, prepared to take on their non-conference schedule.

UTSA then returns home to host Texas State on Sept. 6. The Roadrunners will be looking to bounce back from their tough opener and earn a win in front of their home crowd. It is a must-win game for UTSA, but Texas State will undoubtedly be a formidable opponent, making for a quality challenge.

On Sept. 13, the Roadrunners host Incarnate Word in a welcome-home game. Throughout the season, UTSA will need to ensure that it effectively handles these non-league games.

The next big test is on Sept. 20, when UTSA travels to Colorado State. The Rams have been a good program the last couple of years, and it will be another tough road contest. As the Roadrunners head into the midpoint of their schedule, these games will be important in building momentum for their Conference USA schedule.

The Roadrunners kick off the CUSA schedule with a road trip to Temple on Oct. 4. Temple has experienced its share of ups and downs, but this will be a game UTSA must win to cement its mastery of the conference. The Roadrunners then host Rice on Oct. 11. The Roadrunners will be favored to win this game, as they’ve historically dominated Rice.

On Oct. 18, UTSA hosts North Texas in another road game. The Mean Green are always a tough opponent in CUSA, so this will be a battle the Roadrunners will have a hard time winning. The final two games of October are home back-to-back games against two stout teams: Tulane on Oct. 30 and South Florida on Nov. 6. Tulane and South Florida are both teams that UTSA will fight for the top spot in CUSA, and the Roadrunners will need to be playing at their best to come out on top.

In November, the Roadrunners will play Charlotte on Nov. 15. Charlotte has been getting better and could be a force in CUSA, so UTSA will have to remain vigilant. The season finale starts Nov. 22 with a home game against East Carolina and continues with the Friday night game vs. Army on Nov. 28. The games play a significant role in UTSA’s bid to get into the playoffs and for CUSA seeding, and thus will be crucial in ending the season on a high note.

The UTSA 2025 campaign has all the makings of another Conference USA championship bid. With a good mix of veteran players and up-and-coming stars, the Roadrunners are poised to become CUSA champions again. But the ride will not be easy. They’ll face tough opposition in their non-conference slate against Texas A&M and Colorado State, among others, and in CUSA against Tulane and North Texas.

To clinch the title, UTSA must complete the work in non-conference and CUSA matches. Their depth at vital positions such as quarterback and wide receiver will be helpful while playing more formidable opponents. Head coach Jeff Traylor’s guidance will equally play a crucial role in steering the team through the obstacles ahead. With his previous success, the Roadrunners will be in safe hands.

While the competition will be fierce, UTSA can remain at the top of CUSA. So long as they’re healthy, can win road games, and are consistent, they’ll have a solid chance of holding onto the title and potentially cracking the larger playoff scene.
