Under head coach Lincoln Riley, the USC Trojans’ quarterback lineup has changed substantially. With the departure of key players and the addition of potential prospects, USC hopes to reenergize its offensive strategy for the upcoming season.

USC Trojans’ Quarterback Overhaul: Lincoln Riley’s Strategic Offensive Flip for 2025
Riley brought in two quarterbacks at various stages of their careers. Riley signed five-star recruit Husan Longstreet and Cal Poly transfer Sam Huard to bolster the position unit.
Quarterback Room Reset:
The offseason saw the exit of quarterbacks Miller Moss and Jake Jensen via the transfer portal, leaving a void in USC’s quarterback depth. To address this, Riley secured commitments from:
- Jayden Maiava: Transferred from UNLV, Maiava stepped up as USC’s starting quarterback in the final games of the previous season, showcasing his potential to lead the Trojans’ offense.
- Husan Longstreet: A five-star Corona Centennial High School recruit, Longstreet flipped his commitment from Texas A&M to USC, bringing impressive high school stats and a strong arm.
- Sam Huard: A seasoned quarterback with experience from Washington, Cal Poly, and Utah, Huard adds depth and mentorship to the quarterback room.
“They’ve both shown why we brought them here,” Riley said. “You see Husan’s talent. It stands out on the field. He’s picking up the offense quickly. He’s taken advantage of coming here a little early, which was great. And Sam has been tremendous. He’s done an excellent job in some of the situational football that we’ve done, which is not surprising with as much ball as he’s played.”
As the Trojans prepare for the 2025 season, the quarterback position remains a top priority. While Maiava is expected to start, Longstreet and Huard offer healthy competition and depth.
Riley’s strategy is to capitalize on each quarterback’s abilities, resulting in a dynamic and versatile offense capable of competing in the Big Ten.
