Former USC LB All-In on WR Ja’Kobi Lane: ‘He’s Superman’

Ja’Kobi Lane is proving he’s bound for greatness, earning MVP honors in both high school and college. His impressive performances—first at the Elite 11 Wide Receiver competition in high school and later with a standout display in the Las Vegas Bowl, where he earned MVP—are making him one of the Los Angeles program’s most exciting players.

Former Trojans linebacker Hunter Echols recently called the young star a “game-changer” and gave him the nickname “Superman.” In a bold social media post, Echols explained why the Arizona native reminds him of the strongest DC superhero.

Former USC Linebacker Hunter Echols Believes Ja’Kobi Lane Is the Next Great Trojans WR

Lane, a sophomore wide receiver for the USC Trojans, is earning high praise for his ability to shine in crucial moments. Former USC linebacker Hunter Echols, who transferred to Arizona after his time with the Trojans, shared a passionate video post to explain why Lane is so special.

In the video, Echols said, ” can you bail us out? Can you be Superman? He’s Superman bro. Throw the dubs up. Everything he do is when it matters.”

He went on to describe the wide receiver’s standout performance in a hypothetical scenario against Michigan, emphasizing his ability to deliver under pressure.

According to him, No. 8 is the type of player who can step up when the team needs him most. “We’re down by three. This is 3rd-and-16. Versus Michigan. Away game. We done. This is Jacoby Lane. He’s the truth. You feel me? He’s the truth.”

In the 2024 season, the young Trojans phenom caught 43 passes for 525 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. However, the ex-Trojans defender’s commendation extended beyond Lane’s statistical achievements.

He highlighted the intangibles that make Lane special, saying, “When we throw you the f***ing rock 8 ball, are you going to catch the ball no matter what? No matter what’s happening? No excuses. No the DB is holding me s***. If we call this play and say throw it to 8, are you going to f***ing catch it? Yes, coach, he is. This n****’s the truth.”

Lane’s journey began at Red Mountain High School in Mesa, Arizona, where he was a multi-sport athlete and earned MVP honors at the Elite 11 Wide Receiver competition. His transition to college football has been filled with steady progress, and Echols’ endorsement in that viral 2.5-minute video only adds to the excitement surrounding his future.
