The Florida Gators have won three national championships in their history, two of which came under former head coach Urban Meyer, who led them to top finishes in 2006 and 2008. The ongoing season has Florida at 3-7. The program has made major decisions by firing Billy Napier and giving the reins to Billy Gonzales in the interim.
While the Gators are searching for their next head coach, they will have a special ceremony for Meyer this Saturday when they host the Tennessee Vols in the Swamp. Meyer will be honored in a ceremonial Hall of Fame salute.
Meyer took to X and shared his appreciation to the Florida fanbase in a heartfelt message.
“Gator Nation, thank you for every moment and every memory. Excited to be back in The Swamp with you all this Saturday. Go Gators! 🐊🏟️”

His return to Swamp has many college football fans buzzing if the three-time national champion winning head coach would consider returning to his old stomping grounds as a head coach in the wake of disappointing last few seasons.

Urban Meyer Gives Warm-Shout to Wife Shelley Before Return to Swamp This Week
Urban Meyer’s return to the Swamp to receive his Hall of Fame plaque was announced in August, but the former head coach announced just now that he will be there this Saturday.
In the warm video, he credited his wife, Shelley, for her utmost support to the program during his time there.
“36 years of marriage and the first lady of Florida football,” Meyer said. “When I think of Shelly, that’s what I think of. She did a nut job in the right middle. She could have sat in a suite, but she would much rather sit with the students. That is her. I have to admit that I was a little, I felt kind of out of the water. You know, I could fish out of the water. But settled right in. And still, Gainesville is one of my very favorite places.”
Meyer and Shelley welcomed three children. In the video, the former head coach talked about his children’s relationship with Gainsville.
“Nikki and Gigi, they consider Gainesville home,” Meyer added. “They went to high school at Buholtz. They had great volleyball careers. They used to call him Nate Dog to watch him go out and get the tee after kickoffs and the pounce. He would be hollering at them. That was one of my favorite moments to look over and see Nate tackling a tackle dummy.”
Meyer last served as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021 and since then, he has not taken any roles in NFL or college football circles.
