Urban Meyer’s NCAA Warning Triggers Explosive Fan Backlash Over Old Ohio Investigations

Urban Meyer doesn’t shy away from controversy, and his recent comments about NCAA integrity are no exception. During a recent episode of The Triple Option, the former Ohio State Buckeyes coach came out swinging against coaches who lie to the NCAA, calling it a career-ending move.

Fans Slam Urban Meyer’s NCAA Take with Brutal Reminders of His Own Past

“If you lie as a college football coach to the NCAA, in my personal opinion, you’re done,” Meyer said firmly.

The timing of Meyer’s comments couldn’t have been more provocative. His remarks came on the heels of news that Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore has been suspended for the first two games of the 2025 season. The punishment stems from the ongoing investigation into an advanced scouting scheme involving former staffer Connor Stalions, a scandal that first emerged in 2023 but reportedly dates back to 2020.

Now in his second season after replacing Jim Harbaugh, Moore will miss Michigan’s Week 1 game against New Mexico and a high-stakes Week 2 road trip to face the Oklahoma Sooners. The scandal already cost Harbaugh a three-game suspension last year, while Moore previously sat out one game. But according to Meyer, that’s not nearly enough.

Meyer argued that the NCAA’s past decisions, such as vacating wins or stripping titles, don’t go far enough. In his view, more direct and personal consequences are needed to uphold the integrity of college football.

    But fans weren’t having it.

Meyer’s comments immediately sparked backlash across social media, with many pointing out his controversial track record. While in Florida, Meyer’s program faced intense scrutiny due to disciplinary issues involving players. And at Ohio State, he was suspended for three games in 2018 for his handling of domestic violence allegations against a former assistant coach.

While Meyer’s comments may reflect legitimate concerns about NCAA enforcement, his past makes him a lightning rod for criticism, especially involving integrity and accountability.

“I think Ohio State has let go of coaches after each season that there has been an NCAA investigation. Most schools do not. I love Ohio State, but Urban has been at the center of a few of these, and it’s hard to believe he has never lied. All these coaches lie to the NCAA,” a user commented.

As the 2025 season draws near and Michigan looks to move past its latest scandal, one thing is clear: Meyer’s attempt to weigh in on the conversation has only reignited old wounds among fans and reminded the public that the past is never truly behind you in college football.
