Urban Meyer Predicts Colorado Could End Up Doubling Its Losses in 2025 After 9–4 Season

The Colorado Buffaloes are coming off a strong campaign, registering a 9-4 record, and becoming bowl eligible for the first time since 2016. However, with the departure of their star quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Heisman winner Travis Hunter and several other auxiliary pieces, the 2025 season may not pan out the same way as it did in 2024, according to former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer.

Ahead of the 2025 season, BETMGM has set Colorado’s total win odds at 6.5. During his appearance on “The Triple Option” podcast, Meyer said that he thinks Colorado may face six to eight losses.

“This Colorado team, we don’t know what it’s gonna look like,” Meyer said. “We knew last year what it’d look like. You had Travis Hunter, you had Shedeur, you had a certain look to it. This will be completely different.

“They don’t have the transfer portal, the 40 guys. It’s much less, which, reading it, that tells there’s stability in the program. When you start flipping 45, 50 players every year. I still don’t know how that worked… I’m with Mark (taking the over 6.5 wins) on this. I think it’s going to be right around there.”

Meyer’s prediction is bold: a potential 5–7 or 4–8 season in 2025. Here’s how he thinks each game will turn out in the Buffaloes’ schedule:

    • Aug. 29 vs. Georgia Tech – Toss-up (0.5)
    • Sept. 6 vs. Delaware – Win
    • Sept. 12 at Houston – Win
    • Sept. 20 vs. Wyoming – Win
    • Sept. 27 vs. BYU – Toss-up (0.5)
    • Oct. 4 at TCU – Loss
    • Oct. 11 vs. Iowa State – Loss
    • Oct. 25 at Utah – Loss
    • Nov. 1 vs. Arizona – Win
    • Nov. 8 at West Virginia – Loss
    • Nov. 22 vs. Arizona State – Loss
    • Nov. 29 at Kansas State – Loss

Mark Ingram Takes the Over on Colorado Total Wins Odds

While there is no doubt, that Colorado is reeling from the departure of key players to the NFL draft and transfer portal, during the same segment, college football analyst Mark Ingram was bullish and trusts Deion Sanders’ program to win over 6.5 games.

“I’m going over because I have faith in Deion,” Ingram said as per On3. “They’re gonna get this thing together. Let’s just be honest, though. What is 6.5? I say six, seven wins. I think that’s a good season for them right now.

Ingram acknowledged that while the program lost Shedeur and Travis Hunter, they also made excellent additions like Marshall Faulk and Domata Peko.

Colorado is currently mulling over who will be their starting quarterback for the 2025 season. Liberty Flames transfer Kaidon Salter brings experience with him, while freshman Julian Lewis is one of the highest-rated recruits to ever sign with the program. The Big 12 Media Days aren’t far, and this will give us an insight into who is currently in the running for the QB1 role.
