‘You Got Some Issues’ – Urban Meyer Gives Grim Forecast on Colorado’s 2025 Outlook After Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter Exit

Colorado has been going up in trajectory ever since “Coach Prime” Deion Sanders took over the team. However, after losing both his quarterback son, Shedeur, and his Heisman trophy winner, Travis Hunter, Colorado may be in big trouble coming into the 2025 season. At least, this is what football analyst Urban Meyer thinks.

Meyer talked about how he thinks Deion Sanders’ new-look Buffs will fare next season, and the former coach gave a grim answer during “The Triple Option” podcast:

“He has set the standard. Now, the crowd will probably start to thin out if they start losing and then you got some issues,” Urban Meyer said. “And the other thing I wanna point out is that this Colorado team, we don’t know what it’s gonna look like.”

We knew last year what it’s gonna look like. You had Travis Hunter, you had Shedeur. You had a certain look to it, this will be completely different. They don’t have the transfer portal, the 40 guys, it’s much less, which tells that there’s stability in the program. When you start flipping 45, 50 players every year, I still don’t know how that worked, but they did it,” the former coach added.

Sanders has found a replacement for his son, Shedeur, in incoming five-star freshman QB Julian Lewis, who will be expected to compete for that QB1 spot against four-star transfer QB Kaidon Salter.

Urban Meyer Praises Colorado Culture Under Deion Sanders

Despite his grim forecast regarding Colorado, Urban Meyer still had a lot of praise for Deion Sanders and how he runs Colorado. He noted during that same “The Triple Option” podcast appearance that despite all the fancy clothes and luxury cars, Coach Prime still has things running like clockwork over at Boulder.

“I got to go backstage and watched them practice,” Meyer said. “I see the watches and the cars and all of the flash — it’s just not me. But when I saw what went on behind the scenes, there’s a culture there. He’s tough on them, man. He’s demanding of that team. That’s what blew my mind.”

“There’s no waste of time,” he added. “They went out to work and they left. In between those two hours, it was go time. I’ve been to other teams’ practices where I thought they’re wasting time.”

Sanders, as he was while he was still an NFL player, has remained brash and full of swagger. Despite this and his displays of lavishness, he still got things done, finishing 9-4 overall and 7-2 in the Big 12 conference.
