Head coach Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes won the national championship on Jan. 20 by defeating the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 34-23. It was an impressive win that capped off an even more impressive playoff run.
After a regular season that had some people calling for Day’s job, the Ohio State Buckeyes dominated every matchup in the college football playoff on their path to a national championship.

Urban Meyer Jokes With Ryan Day About What Life Will Be Like Now That He Is a National Champion
Urban Meyer is a legendary college football head coach in his own right. He won a national championship with the Florida Gators in 2006 and again in 2008. He was later hired by the Ohio State Buckeyes and stuck with the team from 2012 to 2018. He would win his third national title in 2014 with the Buckeyes.
Meyer has not coached in college or the NFL since 2021. Instead, he has started a broadcasting career. He also appears on the weekly “The Triple Option” podcast. On Wednesday, Feb. 19, a new episode was released, and Day was a host.
In the episode, Meyer joked with Day that he will not have any more problems now that he has won a national championship.
“You had about a month to sink it in, bruh. The cool thing is once you win a national championship, all problems go away. There will be none — you won one, Mark, I won a couple, and Ryan, it’s over, you know what, no more problems.”
Day responded jokingly that he barely had time to celebrate before he had to turn his focus to the 2025 college football season.
“It literally lasted until the confetti hit the ground, and now it’s on to the next one.”
Urban Meyer: “Ryan, it’s over, no more problems!”

Although Day will certainly get a lot of grace from the fan base for winning the national championship, that will not satisfy them forever. This is still the fan base that wanted him fired after his Buckeyes lost 13-10 to the Michigan Wolverines in the regular season finale.

To get the entire fan base on his side, Day will need to ensure that the Buckeyes end their losing streak to the Wolverines.
Ohio State has lost the past four matchups against Michigan. Heading into next season, the game against Michigan will be a bigger story than the Buckeyes trying to repeat as national champions.
