Kurt Warner Has a Unique Assessment About Shedeur Sanders’ Quarterback Ability

Warner, former NFL quarterback and leader of the iconic “Greatest Show on Turf,” recently shared his thoughts on Sanders during The Joel Klatt Show. According to most mock drafts, Sanders is projected to be the second quarterback selected, trailing Miami’s Cam Ward. However, Warner offered valuable insights into what makes Sanders a standout prospect.

“I like about Shedeur is that I do see his process,” Warner stated. “And so at times when he’s got time, I like to see– and I do see– this surgical aspect of his game. He’s hyper-accurate, the ball is on time, and he’s reading things out.”

“And then, while he’s not a great athlete, he’s got this really rare ability to stay alive in the pocket, not even evade and elude and make plays with his legs per se. It’s almost like a Tarkenton, slash, Roethlisberger kind of keep yourself alive to make a throw type of deal. So it’s like surgeon and magician type of combination.” He added.

When Klatt questioned whether this would translate into NFL success, Warner responded,

“I’m not a draft guy. So, I don’t go back and watch every single snap that all of these guys have. To me, it’s getting a sense of who they were in college, getting a sense of what they do well, and then I’ll let somebody else project where they go or what they’re going to be at the NFL level because I just think it’s such an inexact science that I’m not trying to get into that world.”

Warner was particularly impressed with Sanders’ passing ability, praising him for delivering the “most catchable” and “most accurate ball” among draft-eligible quarterbacks.

“I love that he can place the ball, but he never, you know, whether it’s because of arm strength or whatever, he never throws it hard. He never has to throw it through you,” Warner explained. “I like that aspect of things. I like guys that understand how to make different throws. He’s got great touch. I think he throws a really good deep ball. All of those things.”
