Despite being one of football’s most renowned coaches, 73-year-old Bill Belichick, the new head coach of North Carolina, has revealed that he is learning from an ACC rival, Dabo Swinney, 55. Belichick’s response to a question about his relationship with the Clemson Tigers coach during this week’s ACC Media Days has gone viral.
I asked Bill Belichick about his relationship with Dabo Swinney.
He said “We’re all learning from Dabo.”
Belichick added that Swinney has built a high quality program, and has a ton of respect for him.
“He’s enjoyable to be around. Maybe that won’t be the case on Saturday.” 😂

Despite Belichick’s recent arrival in college football, the two coaches seem to have a long-standing respect for one another. They have had a close relationship since Belichick’s NFL days, but this year’s ACC games will bring in a new era. Both their teams compete on an equal footing in college, potentially creating a new chapter in their relationship.
With Belichick’s move to UNC, the ACC landscape has changed. The Hall of Fame-bound coach stunned the football community earlier this year by accepting the position in Chapel Hill after spending over two decades as the head coach of the New England Patriots in the NFL. Belichick opined that one significant change in college football is the increased time for coaching, which he intends to take advantage of, though he acknowledged that the shift presents difficulties.

What’s Next for Bill Belichick?
In recent years, North Carolina has shown promise but has fallen short in pivotal situations. The program has not achieved a 10-win record since 1998 and has not won an ACC championship in 45 years. Belichick has been tasked with changing that history.
The 73-year-old’s trademark intensity is being carried to the collegiate level by changing the practice schedule and player preparation. The players are well aware of the changes.
Jordan Shipp recently talked about the team’s mentality.
“It’s great for the program, of course, but I mean, like I said, we’re focused on winning games,” he said.
Even with all of his experience, though, Belichick appears to know exactly what he needs to do to prepare his team. His direct admiration for Swinney could be just another veteran move that will keep his team out of the spotlight. Additionally, UNC supporters are already receiving something the program has long needed — belief — thanks to his modest behavior and NFL discipline.
Bill Belichick is in ACC territory, and he’s willing to pick up some new skills along the way. He will contribute both experience and perspective to the Tar Heels when he starts his tenure. Furthermore, the lessons might soon become gameday chess matches with Dabo Swinney on the opposing sideline this fall.
