Scott Frost shared thoughts about his tenure at Nebraska. At Big 12 Media Day, Frost reflected on his decision to leave UCF for Nebraska in the 2018 season.
“I said I wouldn’t leave [UCF] unless it was someplace you could win a national championship,” Frost said. “I got tugged in a direction to try to help my alma mater and didn’t really want to do it. It wasn’t a good move. I’m lucky to get back to a place where I was a lot happier.”

Frost played at Nebraska in college and returned to his alma mater after two years coaching at UCF. His five seasons leading the Cornhuskers were unsuccessful, as he amassed a 16-31 record, including 10-26 in Big Ten play.
After the 2022 season, Frost stepped away from college football to work for the Los Angeles Rams. Now, he’s heading back to where his head coaching days began.
Frost found success in his two seasons with the Knights than at Nebraska. He led UCF to a 19-7 record, including an impressive 13-0 record in 2017. Now, he will look to guide UCF to success in his return as head coach.
Scott Frost excited to coach a Big 12 team
Scott Frost may be returning to UCF, but he will have to navigate a new challenge — coaching a Big 12 team for the first time.
When Frost last led the Knights, they were part of the American conference. However, UCF joined the Big 12 ahead of the 2023 season. On Big 12 Media Day, Frost opened up about his feelings on coaching in the conference.
“I really like this league, and I was excited to get into the league,” Frost said. “There are a bunch of good guys in this league, from a head coaching perspective, that I respect. This is way more relaxed than other ones [media days] I’ve done. There’s just a lot of things about the Big 12 that I’m a fan of.”
It will be interesting to see if Frost can make his mark as a Big 12 coach in the upcoming season.
