UAB announced four non-conference games early on, including a tough game at D.W.R. Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The Blazers travel to Arkansas in Week 3, a week after leaving home to take on a new-look UL-Monroe team the week prior.
A non-conference game against Independent UConn comes about in early November, potentially giving a reprieve from the AAC schedule rigors during the regular season.
About that AAC schedule, UAB travels to take on some tough matchups, mainly because of location but also because of the opponents.
Perennial contender, Memphis hosts the Blazers while the rapidly turned-around USF Bulls welcome UAB to Raymond James Stadium. Charlotte is another road game, but perhaps the trickiest of them all is a game at Michie Stadium against Army.
The Blazers host a handful of opponents this year, kicking things off with an FCS opponent in Alabama State, but the road gets a bit tougher down the stretch. Rice, Navy, and Tulsa enter the picture at Protective Stadium as does Tulane and their back-to-back AAC Championship Game appearances in hand.
Sure, the Green Wave is ushering in Jon Sumrall as the head coach as Willie Fritz left for Houston, but the Tulane roster is expected to be just as stacked under Sumrall.
UAB finished just 4-8 a season ago but put plenty of scares into their opponents with their dominant offensive production. With another year under Dilfer, it’s clear that the direction of this program is an upward trajectory.
