The New Orleans Saints’ new quarterback, Tyler Shough, is already breaking news. He was the team’s 40th overall pick in the second round of the 2025 NFL draft, arrived in the Crescent City, and wasted no time winning over fans and locals.
He comes to the Saints after a long college journey that saw him play at Oregon, Texas Tech, and, most recently, Louisville, where he was popularly known as Cardinal. What really has everyone talking is his first steps in New Orleans, and no one is prouder than his dad, who was part of the special moment that marked his introduction to his new home.

Tyler Shough Wins Over NOLA as Proud Father Shares the Moment
Yesterday, just days after he was drafted, he sat down for his first meal in New Orleans at Drago’s Seafood Restaurant, a beloved local spot famous for its charbroiled oysters.

His first meal…a New Orleans institution, @DragosSeafood with owner Tommy Cvitanovich.
I’m told the dinner lasted 3 hours and everyone loved Shough.

The dinner, which lasted for about three hours, was not just about food; it was a memorable moment. Shough dined with Drago’s owner, Tommy Cvitanovich, and a small group of family and friends, with his father in attendance.
The event was captured in a photo shared on X by Fletcher Mackel of WDSU. The photo shows Shough smiling at a table surrounded by the aforementioned elites, with plates of oysters, bread, and drinks spread out in front of them. It was a picture-perfect moment of a young quarterback embracing his new home.
Sources who attended the dinner shared that Shough left a strong impression on everyone at the dinner. “He’s smart and polite, but we were most impressed by how respectful and humble he is,” one attendee told Mackel. Orleans is a city that values character, so those qualities will go a long way for him, as he becomes familiar.
Can Shough Be the Saints’ Future?
As he settles into life with the Saints, the big question is what comes next. Of course, He’s not expected to start right away. Carr is still the team’s QB1, but Shough’s arrival in many ways adds depth and potential to the roster.
His college experience, while lengthy, gives him a kind of head-up and maturity that could help him adjust to the NFL faster than most rookies. He’s also got the size 6’5”, 225 pounds and arm strength to make plays, something the Saints’ coaching staff, led by offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, will be eager to put energy into developing.

For now, his focus will be on learning the playbook and earning the trust of his teammates. But if his first few days in New Orleans are any indication, he’s already off to a great start. As the 2025 season approaches, all eyes will now be on Shough, looking to see if he can carry this early momentum onto the pitch.
