“It Kind of Pissed Me Off”: Ty Simpson Claps Back at Claims Alabama Lost Its “Juice” Without Nick Saban

The Alabama Crimson Tide under head coach Kalen DeBoer are stringing along nicely as far as the 2025 college football playoffs are concerned, having won their first round of the college football playoff game against the Oklahoma Sooners.

Speaking on the ‘Bussin’ With The Boys’ podcast, Alabama’s star quarterback Ty Simpson discussed all the things that the Crimson Tide have achieved so far this campaign, whilst also acknowledging the external criticism they had to endure.

Ty Simpson, in a conversation with Will Compton and Taylor Lewan on the podcast, highlighted how the talk around Alabama’s SEC championship failure was something that the side did not appreciate. He also spoke about how Alabama had to endure a tough schedule this season, and despite doubts around their playoff qualification, they made it into the top 12 teams this season.

One of the main things that did not sit right with Ty Simpson is the whole narrative around Alabama as a team this season. Simpson further expressed his frustration with all the talk around people referencing past squads and their success under former head coach Nick Saban, implying that the comparison is uncalled for.

“Just the narrative of like Alabama isn’t who they are. They don’t have Saban, they don’t have the same juice, they don’t have the same squad like they used to” , simpson stated on the podcast (44:40)

It kind of, you know, to me honestly just kind of pissed me off cuz I was like, you know, why why does everybody bring up the past?”, He further elaboarated (44:50)

These comparisons around Alabama as a team come on the backdrop of former head coach Nick Saban winning six national championships with the Crimson Tide between 2009 and 2020, turning the Alabama-based program into a powerhouse that everyone expects a lot out of.

Alabama Set To Face Top-Seed Indiana After First Round Win Over Oklahoma

The Alabama-based program, after finishing 10-2 in the regular season, lost to the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC championship, becoming the only team in the history of college football to qualify for the playoff leg of the competition after facing three losses in a season.

Despite a lot of fans and analysts not approving of Alabama’s qualification for the playoffs, they proved all their naysayers wrong after emerging victorious against the Oklahoma Sooners in the first round of the college football playoff, winning the game with a scoreline of 34-24, which also included overturning a 17-point deficit in the game.

The Crimson Tide are now set to face top seed Indiana Hoosiers in their January 2 quarterfinal fixture at the Rose Bowl.
