Fans Claim Trey Owens “Was Posing A Threat To Arch Manning” As Texas Backup QB Makes Transfer Portal Decision

Texas heard some bad news on Monday morning as a quarterback, Trey Owens, from their team, decided to enter the transfer portal with three years of eligibility left.

Owens is 6’5, 220-pound former four-star who didn’t get many chances to show off his skills on the field. He is known to be a talented quarterback and is expected to get offers from big programs.

The Texas QB committed to Steve Sarkisian’s Texas as a four-star prospect in 2024 but never got the opportunity to move above the third spot on the depth chart.

While fans sent their wishes to Owens, they also heaved a sigh of relief as it seemingly confirms Arch Manning’s Texas comeback in 2026. On a post made by @TransferPortal on X, fans poured in their thoughts.

“Hate to see this as Trey is a great locker room guy and was asked to transfer because he was posing as a threat to Arch staying on the field. #Horns, one fan commented.

“So Arch is certainly coming back next year, and then he’s got to compete with Dia Bell. Completely understand the move – thank you for everything Trey. Rooting for you whenever you go!,’ another fan conspired.

“Confirms arch coming back,” another fan wrote.

“Writing on the wall with Arch for another year and Bell in the waiting…,” another fan added.

“Trey Owens entering the transfer portal with three years left? Bro, college football just got another game of musical chairs. Teams scrambling while he picks his next stage meanwhile, fans overanalyzing like it’s a Netflix drama,” another fan commented.

“Totally expected when KJ got the nod over Trey as third rep. Good luck to the kid. After that orange and white game, I thought we had something,” another fan sent good wishes to Owens.

Steve Sarkisian Weighs In On Arch Manning’s Future At Texas

Arch Manning’s future with Texas is predicted but not definite. He shared that he is taking it day by day before making a decision on whether he wants to declare for the 2026 NFL Draft, despite his grand dad Archie Manning saying the Texas QB will most definitely make a comeback for another season.

Manning’s season as a first year starter was full of ups and downs but eventually found his rhythm and finished the season with 2,942 yards, seven interceptions, 24 touchdowns, while also completing 61.4% of his passes and rushing for eight scores.

Talking about Arch’s plans to comeback, Sarkisian said via Wescott Eberts:

“I haven’t asked him. Maybe I should. Feel pretty good about it, but we’ll see.”

Despite Sarkisian’s bold statements about how Texas deserves to be in the Playoffs, the Longhorns didn’t make the cut this year.
