Traylon Ray Injury Update: West Virginia WR Carted Off After Serious Leg Injury

As the Mountaineers were attempting a come back, West Virginia WR Traylon Ray suffered a severe injury against Baylor late in the game. Here's the latest.

The West Virginia Mountaineers were in the middle of a come-from-behind effort against the Baylor Bears when disaster struck. Leading receiver Traylon Ray was targeted deep downfield, near the end zone, when he was interfered with and came up clearly hobbled.

WVU fans in Morgantown immediately noticed the severity of the injury when the Mountaineers players took a knee and shook off the disgust of seeing the injury on the field.

    What Happened to Traylon Ray?

It was a 2nd & 6 play with just under six minutes to play in the third quarter for West Virginia. QB Garrett Greene took a shotgun snap and targeted Ray deep downfield near the 15-yard line when Ray was interfered with and the ball hit the Baylor defender.

The duo of Ray and Baylor CB Caden Jenkins tumbled to the turf, and it was immediately after Ray grabbed his ankle following the play.

A trigger warning for some, this video is tough to watch but is for informational purposes.

The video cut away soon there after and a replay was not shown on the broadcast.

What was shown, however, was the WVU team coming together in the moments after.

The broadcast even said there was such an outpouring of love and emotion for Ray that the trainers had to cut it short and remove him from the field.

“There were so many ‘I love yous’ down here,” the broadcast reported. “The trainers eventually had to say ‘that’s enough guys, we’ve got to get him off the field.'”

The severity of the injury is not quite known, though it is safe to assume that he’ll be sidelined for quite some time.

CFN will stay on top of this as this is a developing situation with any news about Ray’s status and his eventual prognosis.
